Review

The strength of this book in my opinion is it is real. There is no ego in the book and it is not about the author telling us how good he or his sytem is. It is about observations based on real experiences in the market place, through the loss and gain of real money. At the same it displaces the myth that people need to be "super smart" to make a living from the stockmarket and re-enforces the truth about the need for hard work and the desire to learn.

The book starts by the author introducing the stock market at a basic level and helping the reader determine whether they will be compatible with the market. It then explains what tools traders use including information sources, software and data and how to make suitable choices should you decide to purchase a product in the market.

From here the book starts looking at what to trade and the signals and indicators that traders use to base their decisions on. The investigation of these techniques and indicators seems to me to be unbiased and as objective as a trader can get. The advanatges of each technique are highlighted as well as the disadvantages.

At the end of each part there is a section which addresses important concpets that people who are new to technical analysis should be aware of. These concepts are from the Authors testing and experiences and I believe they add an extra dimension to the book as opposed to just re-writing the same old thing about indicators that every other book discusses.

While it would seem the book is aimed at beginners in the stockmarket (or technical analysis in particular), I believe it would be well recieved by people with experiences of their own who want to see another traders views. We are lonely creatures...

One of the aims of the book (according to the authors words (page xiii))is to help people sort the quality information regarding the market and trading from the rubbish. I believe the book has succeeded in this respect and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in technical analysis or just investing in the market.

When any of my friends want to learn about the markets or trading I insist they read this book before I can really help them. I am amazed at how good a basis it provides for them to learn more. They have realistic goals after reading this book and in my view a better chance of succeeding because of it. Some are succeeding in areas other than the sharemarket because they realised through this book they needed to work in areas that allowed them to use their strengths and that was compatible with their lifestyle and character.
