Why Don't We Use The Metastock Tester ?
Now we love metastock for our trading and we use many of it's excellent features. We recommend it as a solid charting package for anyone interested in primarily using technical analysis methods for trading. We are not making a recommendation however of it's system tester. Our personal opinion on this is that it is not adequate to find results we are prepared to build strategies on. There are situations where it will work fine however for all our backtesting we use Tradesim and highly recommend it.
A major problem with testing a trading system using the system tester built into Metastock is that it is only limited to a
single security and one position size model with a fixed initial capital. As a result this can give a very distorted view
of the trading systems performance.
We have found the results erratic and it is almost impossible to put all but the most basic of systems in to it and get results worthy of trading with.
